"Dear Texas Event Planner,
As awesome and exciting as explosions and canon fire may seem, it scares the hell out of my children. Please, at a minimum, give us a 10-15 second warning to cover our kids ears in the future.
Thank you."
Today, we attended the Texas Indpendence Parade. We went last year and Mason had a great time! Not so much this year....
He's still a little shell-shocked from the "bombing" at the Air Show in Laredo a few weekends ago, so them lighting canon's in downtown Austin didn't help make the parade a fun experience. First...we heard them coming, so he started to panic. Second, we're surrounded by skyscrapers(so it echoed), and third, there was no warning....
Mason started crying as soon as he realized there was going to be canon fire. And after they let it rip twice near us, it was over. However...we couldn't convince Mason of that. So, 80% of the parade was him crying and covering his ears.
Our new family rule...take earplugs for kids at ANY Texas outdoor event.
